The Voice Nigeria Honours Late Sound Sultan As Race For N10m, Other Prizes Enters Final Stage

…As six vocalists battle for a chance to make the last four on The Voice Nigeria Season 3.

 Late legendary Nigerian rapper, singer and lyricist, Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi popularly called Sound Sultan who passed on July 11 was honoured with a medley performance of his songs by the celebrity coaches and their talents as a glowing tribute in recognition and celebration of his contribution to the music industry. 

 Sound Sultan, a highly influential but jovial and unassuming singer is renowned to have mentored many award-winning musicians and wrote many hit songs.

The grand finale of the Voice Nigeria Season 3 is billed for this weekend, with the top six talents seeking viewers and fans’ votes to win the N10m grand prize and other mouth-watering gifts. 

 Meanwhile, Episode 17 saw great vocalists Anu and Nuel Ayo exit the show while Naomi Mac, Esther, Dapo, Kitay, Kpee and Eazzie continued the race as the last six out of the 25 talents who scaled the

Auditions and started the contest.

 Kitay in Team Yemi-Alade, Dapo and Naomi Mac in Team Falz, Eazzie in Team Waje with Esther and Kpee in Team Dare all survived by numerous votes from their fans.

 The race to the finals of the Voice Nigeria season 3 continues to heat up as the six finalists gun for the N10 million cash, a car, and a record deal with Universal Music Nigeria.

During Episode 17 last weekend, the last six vocalists performed various songs and are hoping with their powerful performances to get maximum votes from fans for a chance to remain in the competition. 

Esther opened the weekly show with a beautiful performance of Beyonce’s Love on Top, then Dapo with Michael Bolton’s When A Man Loves A Woman, followed by Kitay with Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing. 

Naomi Mac sang Brenda Fassie’s Vuli Ndlela, Kpee with Fireboy’s Vibration while a very emotional Eazzie closed out with I’m Not Telling You by Jennifer Holiday before Host, Nancy Isime announced that Season 4 will be coming soon.

Episode 18 which comes up this weekend will have only four talents perform and fight for the grand prize via the highest viewers votes while the two talents with the least votes are dropped.

To keep their favourite vocalists on the show, viewers have to dial *894*7*talent’s code#.

Voting, which opened on Saturday at 9:00 pm, closes at 11:59 pm on Thursday (today).

For over three months, with an electrifying mix of pulsating musical performances, music training, glamorous fashion, and awesome entertainment, The Voice Nigeria 3 continues to dazzle to the very grand finale.

 UN1TY Limited and Livespot360, producers of the global talents reality series, also emphasised that public voting has become very crucial at this final stage to keep participants on the voice Nigeria season 3, as sponsored by FirstBank, Baba Ijebu, and Airtel.

Scores of vocalists have performed on the highly competitive musical TV reality series but dropped out going through the Auditions, Blinds, Knockouts, Battles, and Live Show stages.

Whoever emerges as the winner will automatically make his or her coach the winning coach of the season. Waje, who has been part of the show since its inception, won the inaugural season.

Apart from versatile singers including Darey, Yemi Alade, Waje, and Falz who doubled as both celebrity coaches and judges, Nancy Isime and Toke Makinwa, co-hosts of the show have added great colour to the third season.

The first season of The Voice Nigeria was broadcast on Africa Magic from April 10 to July 31, 2016.

Agharese Emokpae popularly known as A’rese, a 28-year-old stage actress, won the first season while Daniel Diongoli, professionally known as Idyl, won season 2.

The music reality TV show is designed to discover and promote talented singers to actualize their dreams of becoming international stars.

BON Awards Set To Hold Book Reading Tuesday, December 2

The organisers of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards have announced that the Wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, will lead a distinguished line-up of political figures and Nollywood veterans to a special public reading.

The event, which holds at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, December 2, will feature the reading of Tomi Falade’s book, a play titled ‘Olobun: Matriarch Of Ondo, Mother Of Legacy’.

Mrs. Hamzat will be joined by the State Secretary to the Government, Mrs. Hundeyin; the Deputy Speaker of LAHA, Hon. Moji Meranda Ojora; the Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. Toke Benson Awoyinka; and the SA Housing, Hon. Barakat Bakare.

Adding creative star power, they will be accompanied by former BON Awards winners, including Omowunmi Dada, Keppy Ekpeyoung, Segun Arinze, and Stan Eze.

Olobun is a compelling historical play by Tomi Falade that explores the dramatic origins of a major Yoruba Kingdom, and is predominantly set during the tumultuous 15th-century Oyo Empire.

The story revolves around the birth of twins to Alaafin Oluaso, the abolition of killing twin babies, and how a woman rose to a place of power in Yoruba Land.

Ultimately, the book serves as a journalistic and dramatic account of the journey that culminates in the founding of the great Ondo Kingdom, presenting the character Olobun as the living proof of a powerful legacy born from destiny.

AMAA 2025: Made Kuti Headlines 2025 Edition As Over 150 Film Practitioners Set To Attend

Talented Afrobeat singer and multi instrumentalist, Omorinmade Kuti aka Made Kuti is billed to thrill as over 500 African film practitioners across the African continent and diaspora have confirmed their attendance for the 21st edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, inside Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, Mr Tony Anih, made this known recently at the AMAA secretariat situated in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos.

Anih informed that the 21st edition of AMAA will be spiced up with musical performances from some of the biggest and best music stars in continental genres.

Reacting to the expectations about the night, AMAA’s technical director, Mr Kingsley James expressed that it will be a night to remember as all hands are on deck to make the 21st edition not only special but memorable like the previous editions.

James also noted that the music artists performing have been carefully selected from Africa knowing fully well their dexterity and brilliance in African genre of music.

“We have an impeccable and African line up that would wow all attendees. For musical performances, the cast will be led by Made Kuti, the hugely talented multi-instrumentalist and grandson of Afrobeat progenitor, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Also billed to perform at 2024 AMAA are DJ Kenchello and the Ebony band will also be on the band stand to thrill attendees to a memorable night,” said James.

Also expected to grace the occasion include Nollywood stars and dignitaries from different walks of life.

On Friday, November 7, the Africa Film Academy, AFA, the producers of AMAA, will hold the Africa Fashion show in Lagos. The event heralded the Fashion weekend in Lagos, Nigeria.

“The 21st edition of the AMAA is a big deal like other editions and the board of AFA, owners of the continental film awards have concluded to roll out drums and make this edition memorable to all African filmmakers, creatives, nominees, and everyone who had ever been on the AMAA stage.

“We are not just going to be rolling out in a big way, we are intentional about making the 2025 edition one of the best AMAAs that Africans will celebrate the gathering of several African film practitioners and creatives. This has always been what our late sister and founder, Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe had been planning and wished for before her death and we will actualize the dream to the glory of God, legacy of PMO and lofty strides of the African film sector,” Dr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe said.
