Senator Dino Melaye has revealed how men of the Nigeria Immigration Service nabbed him while he was waiting at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. The lawmaker, who represents Kogi West, had announced the arrest via social media on Monday.

And giving details of the arrest, Melaye said: “‎My self and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and others were to be on an official trip to Morocco but while some have gone through the Lagos airport today, others are to depart tomorrow.

“I got to this airport I was checked in and was already in the lounge waiting for departure. Immigration officers invited me that there is a directive from the police that I can’t travel; that I am on their watch list.

“And I said it was not true, that the INTERPOL said they had not issue an alert on me. I opened INTERPOL’s website and showed them the denial. But they insisted that it was based on the directive from the police.

“I was disembarked and asked me to go to their office (at the airport). They snatched my passport but I snatched my thing back from them. I got it back! I’m still here with them. They circled me and said they were waiting for further instructions from the police.”

He has since been released, according to his colleague, Senator Shehu Sani

The Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA) has begun deploying reliable and uninterrupted internet connectivity at Gusau International Airport ahead of the commencement of commercial operations on October 1.

ZITDA team visited the airport to assess the facility ahead of the immediate deployment of the digital infrastructure.

The connectivity will cover critical areas of the airport, including the domestic and international departure and arrival terminals, protocol and VIP lounges, the control tower, the fire station and other operational facilities. Passengers will also have access to free internet from the moment they arrive at the airport.

Speaking on the initiative, ZITDA said its responsibility goes beyond providing internet access, describing the project as part of efforts to build the digital infrastructure required for modern government, seamless public services and a connected Zamfara.

The airport deployment is part of the broader digital infrastructure expansion programme of the Zamfara State Government, driven by Governor Dauda Lawal’s vision of a more digitally enabled, efficient and connected state.

The first phase of the expansion has already been completed and covers the Government House, the JB Yakubu Secretariat Complex, the State House of Assembly Complex, the State High Court Complex, Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, the School of Nursing Sciences and the Zamfara Internal Revenue Service.

ZITDA said that as the state prepares to welcome commercial flights to Gusau International Airport, it is equally preparing the digital infrastructure required to support a modern airport.

Governor Dauda Lawal Approves 95% Salary Increase for Health Workers

Published

on

The Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dauda Lawal, has approved a 95 percent salary increase for health workers across the state.

The approval, which adopts the Federal Government’s Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), is aimed at improving the welfare of health workers and strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.

The development follows an earlier increase by the state government to bring the salaries of medical personnel in Zamfara in line with those of their counterparts in the Federal Government.

With the new approval, a health worker currently earning ₦100,000 will now take home ₦195,000, while someone on ₦200,000 will earn ₦390,000. A worker on ₦300,000 will now receive ₦585,000, and those on ₦500,000 and ₦1,000,000 will earn ₦975,000 and ₦1,950,000, respectively.

In effect, the 95 percent increase means the existing salary of every affected health worker is almost doubled.

The approval is expected to boost morale, attract and retain qualified health professionals, and ultimately improve healthcare delivery across the state.

It also comes shortly after the state government recruited new health workers last week, with the newly engaged staff set to benefit from the new salary structure.

Health workers in the state have since expressed appreciation to Governor Lawal for the gesture, describing it as a major boost to the sector.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of Zamfara State.
