The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was on Sunday accused of colluding with the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Tinubu is accused of colluding with the PDP in order to scuttle the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The accusation was made by a group within the APC under the aegis of the APC National Vanguard in a communique issued after its emergency meeting held in Abuja. The communique was signed by its zonal coordinators – Abdulrazaq Tewogbade (South West); Clarence Temple (South South); Frederick Nwabueze (South East); Stephen Onche (North Central); Mustapha Ngotho (North West); and Mohammed Dambazzau (North East). It reads: “Tinubu is acting out a pre-planned agenda to sack Chief Oyegun as APC National Chairman before the forthcoming national convention of the party scheduled for June 2018.”“With the successful removal of the party Chairman, President Buhari’s re-election bid may be put to jeopardy. Reliable sources in Tinubu’s political camp have confirmed to us that there is a plot by a faction of the PDP and Asiwaju to create chaos and discord within the APC.

“Politics should be played without bitterness, envy and acrimony, recent events in our party, APC have proved the contrary. It is surprising that our great party is being thrown into further crisis by those who should protect our interest and ensure unity because a house divided against itself cannot stand.“Otherwise, why would somebody entrusted with the mission of reconciling aggrieved parties to pave way for APC national convention be throwing stones in a glass house? Our independent investigations have revealed that Tinubu is working for the opposition parties and PDP to cause crisis that would lead to the sudden death of APC.

“We have it on good authority that some PDP members have scheduled a meeting with Tinubu next week in the United Kingdom. We commend the maturity of Odigie-Oyegun and his response. “After President Buhari entrusted with the assignment of reconciling members of APC, we would have expected that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would go about the task with tact and humility. “But to the contrary, the first thing he did was to create more discord within the party by going after constituted authority of the APC. “The question to ask is: from where does Asiwaju derive his authority? In whose interest is he creating crisis? Does the task of reconciling aggrieved party members convey any authority on him to attempt to discredit the party chairman in public domain? We believe the evil people among us won’t go unpunished.”

Supreme Court Accuses PDP Of Using Social Media To Bully Judges

Published

on

The supreme court has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using social media to bully and terrorise justices.

Inyang Okoro, justice of the supreme court, spoke on Friday while delivering judgment in an appeal filed by the PDP seeking to void the election of President-elect Bola Tinubu on the grounds that his running mate, Kashim Shettima, was guilty of double nomination.

The five-member panel of the apex court dismissed the appeal and held that the appellant had no locus standi to institute the suit.

Okoro held that the appellant tried to mislead the apex court by claiming that the lower court found that there was indeed a double nomination.

“The appellant stated to this court that the court below found that there was indeed double nomination and that the 4th respondent knowingly allowed himself to be nominated in two constituencies,” Okoro said.

“I have searched the entirety of the record and indeed the judgement of the court below and there is no such finding. To think that learned senior counsel will mislead the court is sad.

“For public policy sake, I must state that indeed the 4th (Shettima) respondent withdrew from the nomination for Borno central district on the 6th of July 2022 exhibited as exhibit APC 1 on page 58 of the record of appeal.

“The political party sent to the INEC same 6th of July, 2022 the notice of withdrawal. The political party further sent on the 10th of July 2022, a notification of dates for the conduct of fresh primaries for the senatorial district and the latter letter exhibit APC2 on page 59 of the record carried the reference of Exhibit APC1.

“That is as at the 6th of July, 2022 there was no longer nomination of the 4th respondent for Borno central senatorial distict and there could not have been double nomination on the 14th of July 2022.

“Using the social media to terrorize and bully the justices of the supreme court by the appellant is appalling and unprofessional.

“The appeal is without merit and is dismissed. I abide by the award of cost in the lead judgement.”

Court Nullifies Abure’s Suspension, Affirms Him As Labour Party Chairman

A high court in Benin, Edo state has dismissed the notice of suspension issued against Julius Abure, embattled national chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

Some members of the Edo chapter of the party had in March announced the suspension of Abure as the chairman.

Consequently, Abure and some executives of LP in Uromi Ward 3, Esan northeast LGA of Edo filed a suit to challenge the suspension.

On Friday, judgment was delivered in the suit marked HUC/21/2023.

Emmanuel Aihamoje, the presiding judge, held that the executives in Uromi Ward 3 lack the power under the Labour Party constitution, particularly Acts 13 & 17, and the Electoral Act 2022 as amended to remove Abure as national chairman.

The judge went ahead to impose a perpetual injunction, restraining the defendants from removing or suspending Abure as the chairman until a national convention of the party is convened.

Meanwhile, there is a subsisting order of a federal capital territory (FCT) high court suspending Abure and three other national executives over allegations of forgery.

However, the ruling has been appealed by the affected parties.
