Sheriff-Makarfi

The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, has called on the party’s caretaker committee chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi to embrace peace in other to move the crisis-ridden party ahead.

Speaking in Abuja through his National Deputy Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, Sheriff said there was urgent need for stakeholders to consider political solution to the party’s festering crisis.

Ojougboh said, “I appeal to governors and elders of the party to join hands with the leaders in moving the party forward. We need to find political solution to this crisis because the pending court cases could drag till 2019.

“We should be able to sit together and look at the problem dispassionately. The Port Harcourt convention was illegal; so the caretaker committee is null and void.

“Sheriff is ready and willing to make peace but we must be ready to obey the rule of law and respect internal democracy. He is ready to hand over any day, but he is not prepared to be stampeded out office.”

The party chief noted that the crisis in the PDP was all about the 2019 presidential ticket, which he said had set different groups and interests against one another.

He called on the governors and the party elders to formally dissolve the caretaker committee to enable the PDP make progress.

“The PDP under Sheriff will not rely on government or governors to fund its activities because members will be made to pay their dues and a system of accountability will ensure the judicious use of the funds,” Ojougboh added.

Taraba Gov To Officially Join APC In January 2026 —- Party Chairman

Published

on

The Taraba State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ibrahim Tukur, has confirmed that Governor Agbu Kefas will formally join the party in January 2026.

The governor had earlier postponed his planned defection from 19 November, citing the kidnapping of students in Kebbi State as the reason for the delay.

He said it would be insensitive to proceed with political activities while the nation grappled with another security crisis.

Speaking at a press conference in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Sunday, Tukur said the governor had already been admitted into the party at the ward level, but the official reception would no longer be held this month.

“December is already jam-packed with activities. We don’t want to drag people across the state when families are preparing for Christmas and the New Year,” he said.

Tukur added that Governor Kefas had met all membership requirements.

“The governor wrote to his ward executives, and they have duly received him. As far as party records are concerned, Governor Kefas is now a bona fide member of the APC,” he stated.

He also revealed that 15 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, along with the entire state executive council, had joined the ruling party.

“What you are seeing is a natural realignment. Key stakeholders around the governor have joined him, and more are coming. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” he said.

The chairman added that the party leadership had unanimously agreed that January would be more suitable for the event.

“We have met as a party and agreed that January is the best time. Once a specific date is agreed upon, we will communicate it to the public,” he added.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa has affirmed that with the support of all Nigerians, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would get it right with his concerted reengineering of the nation’s security architecture.

Speaking at the APC Stakeholders and Progressives Governors Forum meeting held Saturday, December 6, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Obasa said he did not doubt that President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government, would do all that they can to ensure that they secure the life and property of every Nigerian.

According to Obasa, “We have seen the president in action and how he is innovating and working hard to resolve our many challenges, especially insecurity, and we believe he will get it done. He’s still the man who can do it. That is why we must do everything within our powers to ensure that he is returned in 2027.”

Speaker Obasa teed off with robust commendations for the governors for their shared dedication and commitment to helping President Tinubu resolve Nigeria’s insecurity problem.

He urged them to galvanise their people when they return to their various states to be a part of the solution to Nigeria’s security challenge, and not stay aloof.

Speaker Obasa added that security is not just about the governors, “It is about everybody. We must all be involved in fighting this problem. We must give the President all the support that we can so that he will succeed in his attempts to redirect the trajectory of Nigeria.”

The PGF had converged on Lagos between December 5 and 6 for a meeting convened by the Chairman of the Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, and hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

In a communique read by Governor Uzodinma, the governors passed a vote of confidence on President Tinubu’s administration, and pledged support for his Renewed Hope Agenda and re-election in 2027.

The Forum, according to Governor Uzodinma, reviewed the security situation across the country and expressed appreciation for the improved coordination between federal, state, and local security structures, as well as the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers. They also resolved to strengthen local security architecture in all the states.

Governor Uzodinma said that their two-day engagement provided an opportunity to review the nation’s current trajectory, deepen coordination among the governors, and reaffirm their firm support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu. “The PGF commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to stabilizing the economy, strengthening national security, and laying the foundations of sustainable growth through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
