Pastor Adeboye Plans National Prayer, Fasting, Says Nation Troubled

Published

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have called on Nigerians to work towards and pray for peace to reign in the country.

While admitting that the nation is in a war situation, Adeboye said what kings and soldiers cannot do, God will do for the country.

The cleric and the governor spoke on Sunday during the RCCG October thanksgiving service and special prayer session organised for all state governors and their deputies at the church’s headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

The program themed, ‘‘Perfect peace in the land,’ was attended by the governor, with his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and other dignitaries which include the representatives of Governors Gboyega Oyetola (Osun State) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State).

In his sermon, Adeboye lamented the situation in the country but assured citizens that God will heal the country.

He said, “In the olden days, except you are one of the special people, they don’t allow the king’s dress to touch you, but now kidnappers can go to the palace to kidnap the king. We are in a war situation, let no one deceive you. What kings and soldiers can’t do, the almighty God will do for you.

“God will heal the land and intervene in various issues affecting the country negatively and I want to urge the people to prepare to join me very soon for fasting and prayer for the country. Pray for the rulers, we have spent so much time criticising them. You should pray for them. I am praying for them, and I pray you will join me to pray.”

Sanwo-Olu, in his speech, commended Adeboye for his encouragement of citizens to pray for their leaders and play their roles to make the country better.

He said, “We need perfect peace in our country but for us to have that perfect peace; we also need to have peace from individuals. It is we the citizens that make the country. It is not just about a metaphorical country; it is the people on the ground that truly make a country.

Adeboye, at the service, narrated his experience in near air mishap twice on his way to London.

He explained that on the first trip, the tyre of the aircraft failed to come out, until over 45 minutes, adding that the incident was a deliberate attempt by God to retain his attention for communication.

Speaking further about his second near-death experience, Adeboye said there was an announcement about expected stormy weather in London which God later told him was diverted because of him.

American International School Writes EFCC, Seeks To Refund $760k Of Yahaya Bello’s Children School Fees

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been requested by the American International School of Abuja (AISA) to furnish “authentic banking details” in order to reimburse the tuition fees paid for the children of Yahaya Bello, the immediate former governor of Kogi state.

Bello is accused of using funds from the Kogi state government to pay $720,000 in advance for the education of five of his children.

The kids attend the school and are enrolled in grades 2 through 8. In an effort to apprehend Bello regarding an alleged N80.2 billion scam, EFCC agents besieged his Abuja home on April 17.

While the operatives were at the house, Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, arrived at the property and reportedly whisked Bello away.

In a letter addressed to the Lagos zonal commander of the EFCC, the school said the sum of $845,852 has been paid in tuition “since the 7th of September 2021 to date”.

AISA said the sum to be refunded is $760,910, because it had deducted educational services already rendered.

“Please forward to us an official written request, with the authentic banking details of the EFCC, for the refund of the above-mentioned funds as previously indicated as part of your investigation into the alleged money laundering activities by the Bello family,” the letter reads.

“Since the 7th September 2021 to date, $845,852.84 (Eight Hundred and Forty Five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty Two US Dollars and eighty four cents) in tuition and other fees has been deposited into our Bank account.

“We have calculated the net amount to be transferred and refunded to the State, after deducting the educational services rendered as $760,910.84. (Seven Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ten US Dollars and Eighty Four cents).

“No further additional fees are expected in respect of tuition as the students’ fees have now been settled until they graduate from ASIA.”

The school said it will draw the attention of the anti-graft agency if there are any further deposits by the Bello family.

In a statement signed by Greg Hughes, AISA also said “Ali Bello contacted the school on Friday 13 August 2021 requesting to pay the family school fees in advance until the students graduate from High School”.

The EFCC has since declared Bello wanted with the NIS placing the ex-governor on a watchlist.

I’ll Continue To Take Difficult Decisions, Even If There’s Short-Term Pain — President Tinubu

Published

Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, says he will continue to make difficult decisions on behalf of Nigerians.

Tinubu made this known during a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands on Thursday in The Hague.

Since taking office in 2023, Tinubu’s administration has implemented new policies that include raising the price of energy, floating the naira, and eliminating the petrol subsidy.

Speaking at the gathering, Tinubu stated that he was brave enough to make tough choices on behalf of Nigerians because he fully understood the “need to give them the long-term tools they need to succeed.”

Describing himself as a determined leader of the people, the president vowed to continue to “take the difficult decisions that will benefit our people, even if there is short-term pain”.

“We have gone through the worst of the storms,” Tinubu said.

”I am unafraid of the consequences once I know that my actions are in the best long-term interests of all Nigerians.

“The Nigerian Naira is one of the world’s best-performing currencies today. We took the necessary risk, and all resilient Nigerians kept faith with us.

“They will be rewarded, and the reward will only be greater as we partner effectively with you on new opportunities for development.

“As leaders, we must take decisions for the benefit of our nations, and we cannot shy away from that.”

Speaking on investment opportunities in the country, Tinubu told the Dutch government official that Nigeria is well positioned to power the clean energy future of the world, including Europe, with its high-grade lithium deposits.

He said the West African nation offers immense opportunities across a pool of sectors, adding that his administration is deepening reforms to enhance the investment climate.

The president said Nigeria seeks robust, balanced, and mutually beneficial partnerships that will spur value-addition in areas like solid minerals.

On April 22, Tinubu departed Abuja, the nation’s capital, for the Kingdom of The Netherlands on an official visit.

48-Yr-Old Nigerian Man Who Relocated To UK In 2022 Beats Wife To Death With Son’s Skateboard Over Bills, Alleged Infidelity

Published

on

Olubunmi Abodunde, a Nigerian living in the United Kingdom, killed his wife Taiwo by beating her with their son’s skateboard.

After arriving in the UK from Nigeria in 2022 with three children, the couple never got along and frequently argued over expenses and rumoured affairs.

According to Daily Mail, 48-year-old Abodunde, who has been the subject of multiple domestic abuse investigations by Suffolk Police, was scheduled to stand trial for murder on Wednesday but then entered a guilty plea after the jury was sworn in.

During the abuse, officers heard ‘a number of bangs’ inside the house, which Abodunde had gone into, despite bail conditions imposed the day before that banned him from the property following another violent episode.

When they finally entered 25 minutes later, they found the wife, 41-year-old Taiwo, with her ‘skull smashed in’.

However, Judge Martyn Levett, sitting at Ipswich Crown Court, warned him the only possible sentence was life imprisonment.

Suffolk Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, which confirmed three officers were under investigation.

An IOPC spokesman said, “We advised two Suffolk officers that they are under investigation for potential breaches of the police standards of professional behaviour at the level of gross misconduct.

“We advised another officer that they are under investigation at the level of misconduct.”

Abodunde had a history of jealousy and suspicion and accused his wife of having affairs. He had been investigated by police a number of times over alleged domestic violence incidents before his wife’s death.

He was arrested on April 27 last year when police arrived at the couple’s home in Newmarket, Suffolk, and found Mrs Abodunde with a split lip.

Later that day, he was freed on police bail with the condition that he stayed away from the marital home and didn’t approach his wife.

But after working a night shift at Tesco, he went home just after 9 am to allegedly pick up his mobile phone.

Two officers arrived at 9.20 am to take a statement from Mrs Abodunde about the previous night’s incident and heard repeated banging noises inside.

But it wasn’t until 9.55 am that they forced their way in after getting approval from senior officers and found Mrs Abodunde ‘obviously dead’ near the front door.

A post-mortem examination later showed she had been throttled until she fell unconscious, then stamped on until her ribs were broken before her husband used the skateboard to finish her off. The blows were so violent that the skateboard was damaged.

Prosecutor Simon Spence KC told the court the banging officers heard was likely to have been Abodunde continuing to attack his wife after she was unconscious or dead.

Mrs Abodunde had a job as a care home assistant in Cambridge, but her husband, who had trained as a civil engineer, was unable to find work in his profession and took shifts at Tesco and Wickes.

After his arrest for the murder, Abodunde was taken to hospital “because he appeared to have some sort of mental episode”.

He later claimed in a police statement he had acted in self-defence, saying, “My wife has subjected me to physical abuse for a number of years.

“On November 28, we got into an argument. She ran at me with a knife, I grabbed the knife and cut my hand. I was defending myself.”

But the court heard while he did have an injury to his hand, there wasn’t a knife near his wife’s body.

Nneka Akudolu KC, defending, said the level of violence was ‘completely out of character’ for her client and might have been affected by medication he was taking. But she said no medical evidence would be provided to support this claim.

Detective Inspector Dan Connick, of Suffolk Police, said after the hearing, “This was an awful attack on a woman that has had a lasting impact on the community and, most importantly, on the victim’s family.

‘We are pleased that Taiwo’s family will no longer have to go through the pain of a trial.

‘Our thoughts remain with Taiwo’s family and friends and hope this result will bring some small comfort to them.’

Taiwo Abodunde worked for Cambridge Manor Care Home, which provides dementia care and residential and respite care.

A spokesman for the facility, which is owned by TLC Care, said: ‘We are all deeply shaken and upset by the tragic death of Taiwo, who was a much-loved member of our home community.

‘Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family. Taiwo always cared for those we support with compassion and kindness, and she will be greatly missed by all of us and our residents.’

Abodunde was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on May 9.
