Nigerian Women Ranked Top Consumer Of Bleaching Creams In Africa

Published

on

Nigerian women have been identified as Africa’s top users of skin-whitening cosmetics.

Whitening creams are cosmetics that lighten the skin by reducing the amount of melanin or pigment in the skin.

Skin that is lighter is thought to be more attractive and to have greater social chances, such as marriage and job.

Women and people of color in every region are primarily served by the skin-whitening industry.

According to reports, women account for roughly 80% of all skin-whitening product sales worldwide.

Data drawn by CNN ranked Nigeria as the top consumer of these creams, with 75 percent of its women patronizing whitening products.

This is followed closely by Senegal at 60 percent, Mali at 50 percent, and Ghana at 30 percent.

The global market for skin whitening was put at an estimated $8 billion in 2020 and projected to increase by nearly half of that figure within six years to hit $11.8 billion by 2026.

Also, creams dominate the market for skin-whitening products and are expected to hit $6.6 billion by 2027.

The Asia-Pacific market accounted for over half of the global revenue (54.3%) from skin-whitening products in 2018 and is expected to grow the most.

The rest of the world accounted for (45.7%) within the same period.

China was projected as being among the fastest-growing markets for such products.

Whitening products often contain toxic ingredients which, when used cosmetically for long durations without medical guidance, can both damage the skin and cause life-threatening ailments.

The chemicals used to lighten skin vary greatly worldwide and are constantly evolving.

They include antioxidants such as glutathione, vitamin C, and collagen.

Three ingredients have been listed as being the most common in harmful whitening products worldwide.

They include steroids, hydroquinone, and mercury, all of which are heavily regulated in most countries.

JUST IN: Pastor Adeboye Makes U-Turn, Urges Police To ‘Investigate’ Tiktoker ‘SeaKing’

Published

on

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has reversed his earlier call for the police to release the detained Tiktoker, Olumide Ogunsanwo, aka ‘SeaKing,’ who faced accusations of cyberbullying.

Reports had previously stated that the Nigerian police in Lagos re-arrested SeaKing when he appeared for a separate trial at a magistrate’s court. His rearrest was linked to allegations of cyberbullying following Pastor Adeboye’s comments on a 100-day fast observed by church members.

In a TikTok post shared in December 2024, SeaKing criticized Adeboye for urging people to fast for 100 days for Nigeria, calling the directive “stupid.”

Upset by this post, the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, a group of Christian youth, petitioned the Lagos State Police Command, leading to SeaKing’s arrest the following week.

However, while addressing the TikToker’s rearrest during the RCCG’s February Holy Ghost service, Pastor Adeboye clarified that he did not authorize SeaKing’s arrest.

He explained that certain individuals, angered by the TikToker’s comments, made the decision to arrest him, prompting the cleric to call on the police to release SeaKing.

In a new development, RCCG issued a statement on Monday saying it would not intervene in the ongoing police investigation into the matter, emphasizing that “the law be allowed to take its course.”

The statement, released by the Public Relations Unit and signed by the Office of the Principal Executive Assistant to the General Overseer, RCCG Worldwide, on behalf of the cleric, reads: “A video calling for the release of Olumide Ogunsanwo (Seakiug303) by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has been circulating.

“However, it is important to note that earlier videos containing potentially defamatory statements had not been thoroughly examined. After carefully reviewing the concerns raised about certain statements and allegations, it has become necessary to let the law take its course.

“It is crucial to properly understand Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye’s statement during the Holy Ghost Service Night on Saturday regarding Olumide Ogunsanwo (Seaking303). The Church does not intend to interfere with the ongoing police investigation, particularly as there is an official complaint filed by the Concerned Christian Youth Forum against Olumide Ogunsanwo John (Seaking303) and others on behalf of the Fathers of Faith, including Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

“Therefore, we trust that the relevant authorities will carry out their investigations professionally and reach a just conclusion based on the law. While Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye maintains a heart of love and reconciliation, due process must be followed. We also caution against cyberbullying and inappropriate commentary regarding Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and the body of Christ at large.

“Furthermore, the Church encourages respectful discourse and will continue to promote a culture of honor while discouraging defamatory and disrespectful statements. Respect for spiritual leaders is a deeply held value in our faith and culture. We encourage all to engage in constructive and respectful discussions, honoring those who have labored in the faith.”

I Try Not To Be The Type Of Man My Dad Was Towards Women — Clarence Peters

Published

on

Clarence Peters, the Nigerian music video director, has spoken about his complex relationship with his father, the renowned juju singer Shina Peters.

In a recent episode of the WithChude podcast, Peters shared his thoughts on his father’s past mistakes, particularly regarding his treatment of women and how it has shaped his own approach to relationships.

He revealed that Shina, 66, “screwed up” by failing to protect his celebrity mother, Clarion Chukwura, 60, who he said “was blackballed by his (Shina’s) colleagues.”

The 41-year-old explained that the experience had a significant impact on him and that he has made a deliberate effort to avoid repeating his father’s mistakes in his own relationships with women.

“My dad screwed up, I mean using the word screwed up is me putting it lightly because his colleagues blackballed my mum and she was already dealing with a lot of trauma from when she was young,” he said.

“In making ‘Inside Life’, I started to discover some of the things I did not know. Episode 5 of ‘Inside Life’ is written by my cousin who went through that and so my mum went through the script and started crying because she also went through the same thing.

“We keep forgetting that it was a different time. My mum told me recently that he has been with women, driven some of the amazing cars, stayed in the best houses, hotels, he has had money. He is approaching his 70s, death is certain because we are all going to die.

“All he can do now is pray to God to forgive him and that is all that he has and so we have had that conversation. My father has made mistakes that I have also made, so I can’t judge him. I can relate to the mistakes that my father has made.

“As much as I was raised by my mother, one of my greatest fears was not to be my father to the opposite sex. I have been a version of that, so I am not a saint. So I cannot judge him. I would like to but I am in the position to.”

The Ogun State Government has charged nine associates of controversial singer Portable for allegedly assaulting government officials, while the artist himself is reportedly on the run.

The suspects appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing five charges, including armed violence, obstruction, assault, and intent to kill. They allegedly attacked officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at Portable’s “Odogwu Bar” in Sango-Ota.

According to Police Prosecutor Sunday Ekong, the defendants—armed with cutlasses and guns—assaulted town planners who were enforcing the sealing of Portable’s uncompleted hotel and building for lacking proper permits. The singer was accused of leading the attack but is currently at large.
