A teacher at Soun High School, identified as Mr. Fatai Adegoke, has died after being attacked by his students while attempting to stop them from gambling during school hours.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when Mr. Adegoke reprimanded a group of students caught gambling inside a classroom. The students reportedly turned on him in anger, beating him mercilessly and inflicting serious injuries, including multiple fractures. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he later died from the injuries sustained in the assault.

“With deep pain and righteous indignation, we mourn the tragic and avoidable death of Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a dedicated teacher who was brutally attacked by his own students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours,” a statement from a group of concerned educators read.

“This horrifying act is not just an assault on one man; it is an attack on the entire teaching profession,” the statement added.

The educators further urged the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and law enforcement agencies to immediately ensure that the culprits are brought to justice. Iwobi Shares Video Of ‘Shabby’ Super Eagles Hotel In Morocco

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has shared a video on social media showing the condition of the hotel accommodation provided for the Nigerian national team in Morocco ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup African play-off match against Gabon.

The video, which has since gained attention online, captured the surroundings of the hotel in Rabat, sparking reactions from fans and sports enthusiasts over the standard of facilities arranged for the team.

According to PUNCH Online, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is responsible for arranging accommodation for participating countries during international tournaments. However, it is understood that national football federations, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), have the right to raise concerns or request alternative lodging if the facilities fall below expected standards.

This latest development is not an isolated incident. Earlier in the year, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade publicly criticised the quality of rooms provided by CAF during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, also hosted in Morocco. Her remarks reignited debates about the treatment of African teams during continental tournaments.

The Super Eagles are expected to face Gabon in the crucial African play-off on November 13 in Morocco as they bid to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match is seen as a vital step in Nigeria’s campaign to return to the global football stage after missing out on the last edition.

As of press time, neither CAF nor the NFF had issued an official statement in response to Iwobi’s video or the concerns raised about the team’s accommodation.

Iwobi, who plays for Fulham FC in the English Premier League, joined the team’s training camp in Rabat earlier in the week alongside several other early arrivals. The camp opened with 10 players, as preparations intensified under the supervision of head coach Finidi George.

The incident has sparked renewed discussion among Nigerian fans about the welfare of national players and the logistics provided for international matches. Many have called on the NFF to immediately intervene and ensure better conditions for the team before the crucial fixture.
