5,000 Children To Benefit From Kits For Kids Education Intervention In Kwara State

Over five thousand children in public schools across Kwara state are set to benefit from the Kits for Kids Africa education intervention. The project which is an initiative of the Aurora International Charity Foundation founded by ex-beauty queen, Tomi Salami, is set to stage a massive education intervention outreach which will hold from May 23-26, 2016.

In a statement released by Miss Tomi Salami, Founder of Aurora Charity Foundation, organisers of the Kits For Kids Africa initiative, the education intervention is targeted at helping over 5,000 needy children in public schools across Kwara state.

She stated that items to be provided will include, brand new school bags, sandals, stockings, exercise books and stationery. Other items such as, lunch bowls, tooth brushes, water bottles and lots more will also be provided to the children.

Miss Salami further noted that the 4-day event will include courtesy visits to the Governor of Kwara State, traditional rulers and indigenous dignitaries, strategic Kwara State Government development and infrastructure projects and a Media tour.

It will also feature a 2-day Kits For Kids educational intervention in partnership with Microsoft Corporation and will conclude with an official photo shoot at West Africa’s Highest Waterfall, the Owu Falls, located in Kwara state.

According to the ex-beauty queen, the event will also feature special support appearances by celebrities and international beauty queens from the USA, Canada, South Africa, India, Botswana and Puerto Rico, who are also passionate about touching lives.

“We have celebrities joining us as Goodwill and Tourism Ambassadors so it’s going to be absolutely amazing…the experience of a lifetime for the children,” Salami added.

Miss Salami stated that she wants the world to know about this great initiative and offer their support to make a difference.According to her, ‘You don’t have to be President Buhari, AlhajiAliko Dangote or Madam Folorunsho Alakija before you can reach out and make a CHANGE. If we can start from what we have now, sooner than we think, the world will be a better place’.

Since 2013, Kits for Kids Africa has been impacting thousands of lives positively and it’s set to do it again by enhancing the face of education in Africa, as well as inspiring and supportingthe Leaders of Tomorrow.

Microsoft Sacks Workers At Africa Development Centre In Nigeria, Shutdown Building

Microsoft, an American technology company, has fired its workers at the Africa Development Centre (ADC) in Lagos, Nigeria.

The ADC is Microsoft’s initiative in Africa for an engineering centre to provide local solutions with global scalability as well as provide employment opportunities and further enhance technological innovations on the continent.

According to The Cable, confirming the development on Wednesday, a staff under anonymity, said the workforce was laid off but the reasons are still unknown.

The company has also reportedly shut down the centre.

The development is coming less than four years after Microsoft opened operations in Nigeria.

In May 2019, Microsoft announced the establishment of ADC in Nigeria and Kenya, with the mission of creating innovative technology not just for Africa, but for the entire world.

Microsoft called for talented engineers to work on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mixed reality.

The company committed to investing $100 million in the first five years of operation.

On March 21, 2022, the facility was opened in Lagos.

Microsoft had said the centre will house the product engineering, ecosystem development and innovation teams.

The ADC facility also housed the Microsoft Garage, a new entity, launched as part of ongoing efforts to scale innovation in the tech ecosystem.

BREAKING: EFCC To Arraign Sirika, Daughter, Two Others On  Thursday Over Alleged N2.7bn Fraud

Former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, his daughter, Fatimah, and two other suspects, will on Thursday be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The suspects are facing charges over alleged N2.7 billion contract fraud uncovered in the Aviation Ministry under Sirika.

The embattled former Minister would be arraigned for trial for the first time, before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.

Sirika is billed to appear in court with his three co-defendants, his daughter, Fatima; one Jalal Hamma, and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd, on charges of abusing their positions to launder over N2.7 billion.

President Tinubu Returns From Trips To Netherlands, Saudi Arabia

Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after trips to The Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.

On April 22, Tinubu departed Abuja for the Kingdom of The Netherlands on an official visit.

According to presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, Prime Minister Mark Rutte invited the president to visit The Netherlands.

Following his commitments in the Netherlands, Tinubu travelled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on April 28 and 29, where he attended a special gathering of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to the president, had said the president and his aides will return to Nigeria on Wednesday.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with his aides, will return to Nigeria tomorrow from Europe,” Onanuga wrote.

On Wednesday, Onanuga confirmed the president’s return by tweeting: “Welcome home Mr. President.”
