Nigerian journalist and media strategist Enyinnaya Appolos has urged President Bola Tinubu to entrust the implementation of his administration’s housing pledge to the Super Falcons to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stating that Wike possesses the efficiency and speed needed to execute the promise swiftly.

Tinubu had pledged housing units in the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja to the Falcons following their victory at the Women Africa Cup of Nations.

At the tournament held in Morocco, the Super Falcons defeated the host team, Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, in the final to clinch the cup for a record 10th time.

In a statement on Monday, Appolos emphasized that delivering the promised three-bedroom apartments in Abuja to the Super Falcons was not just a matter of honour, but a vital test of the government’s resolve to keep its word to national icons.

I respectfully appeal to President Tinubu to instruct the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to take charge and fulfil the President’s promise by ensuring the allocation of the promised 3-bedroom apartments in Abuja to the Super Falcons, Appolos said.

He cautioned that assigning the task to either the Federal Ministry of Housing or the Ministry of Sports might lead to unnecessary delays or even failure to deliver.

He pointed to past instances, such as with the Super Eagles squads of 1994 and 1996, who had to wait for decades to receive their promised rewards, with some players not living to see them.

Appolos said, We have seen how, for decades, our national sports heroes have been neglected after giving their all for the country. We must not allow the Super Falcons to become another unfulfilled promise. Wike is known for execution and speed. If given the mandate, he will deliver, and he will deliver promptly.

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, have consistently demonstrated resilience and brilliance, often outperforming expectations globally despite limited support and funding.

Their recent accomplishments have reignited calls for real investment and recognition of women in sports.

Appolos stated that fulfilling the president’s promise went beyond housing—it signified a stance on gender equity, gratitude to national achievers, and leadership credibility.

He said, Rewarding the Super Falcons is not a favour; it is a duty. It is the least we can do for a team that has consistently brought honour to this country under very difficult circumstances.

As Nigerians continue to celebrate the success of the Super Falcons, Appolos’s message serves as a strong reminder that commitments made to national heroes should be fulfilled promptly and with sincerity.
