The 2019 general election in Nigeria may not hold due to the incessant killings in parts of the country, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said.
Many Nigerians have been killed in clashes involving farmers and herders as well as communal confrontations in 2018.
States like Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Zamfara and Nasarawa have suffered many causalities resulting majorly from suspected attacks by herdsmen.
Recently, more than 19 persons, including two priests, were killed by suspected herdsmen in separate attacks on Gwer East and Guma areas of Benue.
The armed men reportedly stormed the St. Ignatius’ Catholic Church during an early morning mass, killing the priests and other members.
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killings, vowing to put a lasting end to the attacks. However, the revered cleric believes more still needs to be done.
“We need to pray because unless these killings stop immediately even Nigeria may not live. We are not talking about individually we are talking about Nigerians itself,” he said at the ongoing Holy Ghost service for the month of May, 2018 tagged:’ Greater Than Your Enemies’.
“A bishop asked me sometimes ago what God has revealed to me about 2019 election.“I told him I am not sure there would be an election because unless these killings stop, there may be no election nextyear, I’m mot prophesying but this is so because no one will go out to vote if not sure they will return home safely.
“I have seen war at a close range, there is nothing good about it. A nation may survive a civil war but no nation can survive a religious war and remain the same.“That Nigeria may live and not experience religious war these killings must stop.”
