Whether Atiku Holds Meetings In Dubai Or Jungle, We Are Not Afraid —- Tinubu Boasts

Published

on

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said he and other chieftains of the party are not afraid of where the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, holds his meetings ahead of the 2019 elections.

Tinubu said this when he spoke with State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.

He said: “We don’t fear, whether he (Atiku) is meeting in the jungle, in Dubai or in Abu Dhabi.

“People are free to meet and strategise in any way they feel, but we are not going back to the illusion of the PDP.

“It is not possible.

“Nigerians will not do that.

“They say slow and steady wins the race.

“We inherited that from our forefathers and knowledgeable people.

“We can’t go back to the pit that we inherited for 16 years.

“They can strategise from anywhere, but a leopard cannot change its skin.”

Tinubu also dismissed the call for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiohmole, saying party supremacy must be respected.

According to the APC National Leader, Oshiohmole has so far not violated APC\s constitution or engaged in any anti-party activity that will warrant his resignation or removal from office.

He said: “We all have to respect the party supremacy.

“You were all here when we had the Congress, we elected the new executives, we had the convention, the NEC was formed and we surrendered to avoid conflict, to avoid domination, to avoid abuses of power, we surrendered our rights, all rights to the National Working Committee headed by Adams Oshiomohole.

“That the National Working Committee should set up electoral bodies to supervise various state congresses and elections.

“We signed off for it.

“So, if it is not in our individual favour, so be it.

“We gave three options: consensus, where there is no consensus because if you are more than two or three and you cannot agree to one candidate, you go to the next level.

“The next level is the stakeholders’ delegates (system) and you have to be supervised by the National Working Committee of the party, national election committee of the party.

“That shows party supremacy or the freest option, the less cumbersome is to open direct primary, line up and count the number 1,2,3.

“If you win, you win and if you fail, go home.”

Tinubu further explained that an appeal committee was set up by the party to look into grievances arising from the conduct of the party’s primaries.

He said the committee, which served as internal mechanism for conflict resolution, had performed its duties diligently.

He said: “It was there (appeal committee), you cannot turn round against that, and you cannot turn against all of that.

“No.

“Party is supreme, party must be respected, abuses will not do it and anger will not do it.

“It is party politics.

“Somebody will win and somebody will lose.

“Too bad.”

It would be recalled that Oshiohmole had on October 21 in a statement by his press secretary, Simon Ebegbulem, alleged that conservatives within the party are ganging up to pass a vote of no-confidence on him.

He said in the statement that his sin was his refusal to allow continued impunity and circumvention of due process being perpetuated in some states.

The APC chairman added that he was not surprised by the gang up as he never had the illusion that the process of reforming the party was going to be an easy one.

Donald Trump Defeats Kamala Harris To Win US Presidential Election

Published

Republican candidate Donald Trump has won the United States presidential election, surpassing the crucial 270 electoral college votes needed for victory.

With Wisconsin now secured, Trump has reached 276 electoral college votes, clearing the threshold required to claim the White House.

Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, who currently holds 219 electoral college votes, is preparing her concession speech, which will be delivered shortly.

Trump successfully flipped several blue states to red and defeated Harris in key battleground states.

The Republican candidate is making a return to the White House after serving as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.

“This was a movement like nobody has ever seen before. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump said just before the networks declared him the winner.

“Everyday, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”

“We are going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We are gonna fix our borders, we are gonna fix everything about our country. We made history for a reason tonight.”

Trump based his campaign on issues such as immigration, the economy, and border security, frequently criticizing the Democratic Party as being “weak” on these fronts.

US Decides: Trump Claims Victory Over Harris In Presidential Election, Says We’ve Taken US Back

Published

on

Donald Trump declared victory and promised to “heal” the country as results placed him on the brink of defeating Kamala Harris in a dramatic White House comeback.

His triumphant speech came despite Fox News being the only network to declare him the winner, with no other US outlets having made a call at that point.

As ecstatic supporters cheered and chanted “USA,” Trump took the stage at his campaign headquarters in Florida, joined by his wife Melania and several of his children.

“We are going to help our country heal,” the Republican former president said.

“It’s a political victory that our country has never seen before.”

US networks had called Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina for the 78-year-old, while Trump led Harris in several other states, although those hadn’t been officially decided yet.

A sense of gloom quickly enveloped Harris’s camp.

“You won’t hear from the vice president tonight but you will hear from her tomorrow,” Cedric Richmond, Harris’s campaign co-chair, told a watch party in Washington as supporters began to leave.

In another setback for Democrats, Trump’s Republican Party also gained control of the Senate, flipping two seats and overturning a narrow Democratic majority.

A Trump win could send shockwaves across the globe, as US allies in Europe and Asia fear a return to his nationalist policies and his praise for autocrats like Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

However, the US dollar surged, bitcoin hit a record high, and most equity markets saw gains as traders predicted a Trump victory as the results came in.

For weeks, polls had shown a razor-tight race between Harris and Trump, who would become the oldest president in history at the time of his inauguration, the first felon president, and only the second in history to serve non-consecutive terms.

Trump is also facing sentencing in a criminal case over hush money payments on November 26, while the controversy over his refusal to accept his 2020 election defeat to Joe Biden continues to loom.

But in the end, victory came surprisingly quickly.

The mood shifted sharply at Harris’s watch party at Howard University, her alma mater and a historically Black college in Washington, as the results poured in.

“I am scared,” said Charlyn Anderson. “I am anxious now. I am leaving, my legs can barely move.”

Meanwhile, the celebrations grew more intense at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and at the watch party nearby.

Tech mogul Elon Musk, who has supported Trump and is poised to lead a government efficiency commission under him, posted a picture of himself with the Republican.

“Game, set and match,” Musk said on X, the social media platform he owns alongside the Tesla electric vehicle company and SpaceX.

Millions of Americans had lined up to vote throughout Election Day, with many more casting early ballots, in a race with profound consequences for both the United States and the world.

Voters were deciding whether to hand Trump a historic comeback or make Harris the first woman to hold the world’s most powerful position.

In a stark reminder of the tension — and the fear of potential violence — dozens of bomb threats were made against polling stations in Georgia and Pennsylvania.

The FBI stated that the threats appeared to originate from Russia, which the US has accused of attempting to interfere in the election. Though all the threats were hoaxes, they caused significant disruption.

Harris, 60, had hoped to become the second Black president and the first of South Asian descent.

Her entrance into the race had been dramatic, coming after Joe Biden dropped out in July, while Trump — who was impeached twice during his presidency — had endured two assassination attempts and a criminal conviction.

She focused her campaign on portraying Trump as a threat to democracy and firmly opposed his stance on abortion bans.

Trump, for his part, vowed to launch an unprecedented deportation campaign targeting millions of undocumented immigrants, speaking in a campaign steeped in dark rhetoric.

The election was closely watched worldwide, especially in war zones like Ukraine and the Middle East. Trump has suggested he would cut aid to Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion.
