Widespread violence erupted in several cities across northern Nigeria on Thursday, as the #EndBadGovernance protests turned chaotic.

In Kaduna, a police officer was allegedly shot by hoodlums during the demonstration and is currently receiving treatment at the Nigerian Army Referral Hospital, located opposite the government house, according to Sani Kila, Chief of Staff to the state governor.

Kila also refuted reports of a 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government.

Meanwhile, Mansir Hassan, the police spokesperson in Kaduna, confirmed the arrest of 25 suspected hoodlums in connection with the protest.

The incident highlights the escalating tensions and clashes between protesters and security forces in the region.

He said the armed hoodlums attacked and looted the offices of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA), the Kaduna State Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA), and a neighbouring residential house located along Sokoto road.

Meanwhile, in Jigawa state, at least three people were reportedly killed and others injured as police fired teargas to disperse hoodlums who had infiltrated the protest.

In Gumel town, the store of the Jigawa State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), a private house belonging to a house of representatives member representing Gumel, Gagarawa, and Maigarati federal constituencies in the state, and the residence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) zonal vice-chairman, were all vandalised and looted.

Also, in Dutse, the state capital, hoodlums set the headquarters of the APC on fire.

They reportedly broke into the facility and destroyed billboards and other promotional materials before setting the structure on fire.
