Three medical students’ bodies have now been found in the water after going missing after a boat carrying 14 of them crashed on Saturday in the waterways of Calabar.
When it was anticipated that the bodies would turn up after 24 hours from the time they were drowned until early Monday morning, the search proceeded all through Sunday afternoon.
In a press conference at the Marina Resort in Calabar, the state’s commissioner of police, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, said, “When the bodies were sighted, our marine police rose to the scene, with efforts from the local divers, the bodies have been recovered.
“Three students were missing and we did not rest since that day. The rescue effort continued day and night and this morning we are here to let you know that the bodies have been recovered and you can see them around me.
“The locals did a very marvelous job and they have just delivered the three bodies to us.”
The police boss added that the state government and the police have already taken measures to safeguard lives and property in the area.
Meanwhile, Governor, Prince Bassey Otu has directed the immediate shutdown of the resort and questioning of the management over standards and safety.
