Tampan Mourns Late Adebayo Faleti, Says Baba Died At 95

Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producer’s Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) felicitates with the family of Late Veteran broadcaster and Actor Pa Adebayo Faleti.

TAMPAN, In an official statement corrected the earlier report that Pa Faleti died at 87, the thespian body said Late Faleti was born 95yrs ago and would have been 96 this year before he passed on.

Indeed Its moment of sadness and joy in the nigeria film industry as one of most respected icon, fore-father, custodian of art and culture Pa Adebayo Faleti bows out at age 95.

Sadness because it pains to see this ebullient, creative and humorous poet, playwright, producer, director, journalist and custodian of not only Yoruba culture and history but Africa at large succumb to the cold hands of death at this stage that his wisdom, knowledge and deep sense of creativity is still needed.

Joy because he died he fulfilled theater luminary, well loved by old and young.

A fountain of inextinguishable knowledge and wisdom. A minute with Pa Faleti is like 1000 years. He’s vast knowledge about theatrical know how is unending.

Pa Faleti was also a Yoruba translator, a broadcaster, TV exponent and a pioneer of the first television station in Africa, Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) in the 60s.
He was responsible for translating Nigeria’s National Anthem from English to Yoruba.

He also translated speeches being made by military president of Nigeria Ibrahim babangida and Chief Ernest shonekan, Head of National Interim Government of Nigeria, from English to Yoruba.

Pa Faleti equally published a dictionary containing the formal or official use of Yoruba names.

He was a recipient of many awards, both locally and internationally, including the national honour of Officer of the order of Niger (OON) the Festival of Arts award with Eda Ko L’aropin (1995) and the Afro-Hollywood Award for Outstanding Performance in Arts (2002).

Some of his works includes Basorun Gaa, Won ro pe Were ni, Omo olokun Esin, Thunder Bolt, Oba lola, etc

Films are: Fere bi Ekun, Idamu paadi Minkailu, Thunder Bolt, Saworo Ide, Ofin Ga, Toluwa loni’le, Afonja, Agogo Eewo, S’awo S’ogberi.

Pa Adebayo Faleti according to his children died early hours 8:30am on the 23rd of July 2017 in his house at Ibadan. May his soul finds eternal rest in the bosom of Almighty GOD.
