Militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has called off a ceasefire agreement it had with the federal government.
The group which became popular for carrying out attacks on oil installations in the Niger Delta region in 2016, in a statement posted on its website on Friday, November 3, vowed to resume attacks on oil installations any day from now.
According to its spokesperson named Mudoch Agbinibo, all its operatives across the country have been counted and are ready to carry out directives from its high command in the coming days.
It accused the Nigerian government of working with a group, the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, which it described as fraudsters from the Niger Delta region.
The NDA alleged that the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers and the federal government were working to jeopardize the sincere efforts of the Niger Delta people at achieving economic, social and political freedom.
The group also condemned a former top militant in the region, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, saying he had failed to live up to his leadership roles for those who seek absolute “emancipation” for the region.
The militants named the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, as one of Nigerian government’s loyalists sabotaging its cause.
The NDA sent a chilling warning to oil companies operating in the region, stating that its impending campaign would not be like the 2016 campaign which was operated successfully without any casualties.
It said: “This outing will be brutish, brutal and bloody, as we are shall crush everything we meet on our path to completely put off the fires that burn to flair gas in our communities and cut every pipe that moves crude away from our region.
We can assure you that every oil installation in our region will feel warmth of the wrath of the Niger Delta Avengers.”
Citing former US president, John F Kennedy, the group said those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
