The proposed single six year single term for presidency is a plot to deny Igbos opportunity of having the position, according to a governorship aspirant in Abia State, Chidike Ukauwa.
Ukauwa who is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) spoke in Umuahia on Tuesday. He described the move as undemocratic and anti-development, saying Igbos must rule the country for eight years.
“South East must have their two terms of eight years before Ohanaeze should come up with the proposal,” Ukauwa said.“It would amount to cheating, if the people of South East zone are denied the presidency and not given the opportunity to produce Nigerian president that will serve for eight years.
“What we want is Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2023 and creation of additional states in South East.“So, the single term of six years proposed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo would not bring the needed development in the country”.
He thus urged Igbos to back Buhari’s re-election bid as it is the quickest route to Igbo presidency. Ukauwa urged the National Assembly to snub the proposal which he said is unneeded.
