Seven people have died in a building collapse in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Abdulrahman Mohammed, the acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), confirmed this during an inspection of the site of the collapse on Airport Road.
The incident occurred on Saturday when people were attempting to salvage materials from a building that was being demolished by the Federal Capital Development Control due to issues with land ownership.
He also confirmed that two persons are currently receiving treatment at the hospital and advised the general public to avoid putting their lives in danger by taking advantage of demolished structures.
Though the number of persons in the building when the incident occurred was yet to be ascertained, the official assured citizens that the agency’s rescue team was still on site.
