The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the federal government to review policies that are causing economic hardship in the country.

In a statement marking Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, the PDP criticized President Bola Tinubu’s policies for driving up petrol prices and causing the naira to depreciate since his administration began in May 2023.

The party called on Nigerians to resist the “emasculating policies” and to defend democracy against what it describes as “totalitarianism” imposed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP emphasized that true independence involves respecting citizens’ rights, the rule of law, and transparency in governance, which it claims have been stifled under APC leadership.

The PDP accused the APC of exploiting citizens through burdensome tariffs and taxes, reversing the progress made by previous PDP administrations.

They urged the APC-led government to reconsider its policies, reduce fuel prices, and stabilize the naira to improve the economic situation.

The party also called on President Tinubu to listen to Nigerians and focus on projects that would directly benefit the wellbeing of the people.
