Power Supply To Lagos Dropped By 350MW Due To Faulty Transmission Lines — TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that a fault on its Omotoso-Ikeja West 330 kilovolt (kV) transmission line has significantly reduced electricity supply to Lagos.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager (GM) of Public Affairs, stated that the transmission line snapped between towers 420 and 422 on March 9, leading to an approximate 350 megawatts (MW) drop in bulk electricity supply to the state.

Mbah mentioned that both Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) were affected.

“This temporary drop in bulk power supply has caused significant load shedding within the Eko and Ikeja franchise areas,” the GM said.

“TCN has mobilized its engineers to the site and conveyed necessary materials to repair the snapped sections of the 330kV Omotoso – Ikeja West transmission line.”

According to Mbah, repair work is expected to be completed within three days, after which full bulk power supply will be restored through the transmission line.

Mbah also apologized for the inconvenience caused to the government, EKEDC, IKEDC, and electricity consumers in Lagos state.

On Monday, EKEDC and IKEDC attributed the power supply disruption in Lagos to a “fault in transmission infrastructure” under the management of TCN, which has resulted in load shedding.
