Five people have been confirmed dead and others injured in a fresh attack by suspected Mambilla militia members on Fulani communities in Taraba state.

The attack, disclosed by the Taraba State Police Command, happened in the Sardauna local government area of the state.

Speaking to NAN on Saturday, the Command’s public relations officer, ASP David Misal, said the attack was triggered by an argument that broke out between a farmer and a herdsman in Nyiwa and Yerimaru areas on Thursday. He said units of mobile policemen and soldiers have been deployed to the area to restore law and order.

Misal added that the situation, which led to the burning of several homes and killing of many cows, has been brought under control.

His report was corroborated by an eyewitness who said the violent attack also cost residents of 15 Fulani communities their homes as they were set on fire.

He said the arrival of security agents was all that prevented the loss of more lives and property.
