Nigeria’s chief of army staff (COAS), Taoreed Lagbaja, has directed troops to wipe out violent attacks and activities of gunmen in Plateau.
Lagbaja addressed the troops on Saturday, saying they must work effectively to completely stop the violence in Plateau.
In recent weeks, many communities in the state, particularly in Mangu LGA, have come under attack by gunmen.
To curb the violent attacks, the army chief launched a special operation.
The operation was flagged off after the deployment of manpower and equipment in the state.
“You must note that you must work and you must work effectively. We must see the results in Plateau, this violence must not resurge. You must stamp it and stamp it out completely,” the COAS said.
“You have pledged your readiness, I except this in the actions you will take in the field. I wish you the very best.
“My lines are opened, if you have any challenges or questions, send in a message and we will respond accordingly.”
Lagbaja became Nigeria’s 23rd chief of army staff (COAS) in June 2023, succeeding Faruk Yahaya.
