Bandits threatened to assault nine communities in Zamfara State’s Bukkuyum Local Government Area unless they paid a N24 million obligatory ‘fee.’
The thieves have ordered the communities to pay somewhere between N500,000 and N5 million, according to a local who requested anonymity.
The afflicted communities have begun rallying to pay the bandits, according to findings, and locals claim that messages to that effect have subsequently reached the impacted communities through abduction victims who have regained their freedom.
The source listed the communities as Yangalma, Tungar Gebe, Wawan Iccen Ibrahim, Wawan Iccen Salihu, Galle, Nannarki, Ruwan Kura, Gangara and Gaude.
Recall, the bandits 10 days ago, stayed in the Gando forest and launched attacks on seven communities in Bukkuyum and Anka Local Government Areas leading to the death of hundreds of people, while over 1,900 cows were rustled.
“Some of the community leaders who received letters from the bandits reported the matter to the authorities,” according to a local.
However, as of the time of reporting this story, neither the police nor the government had responded.
