A group of Niger Delta Women protesters has revealed that the former first lady Patience Jonathan is very sick following the seizure of her $15million by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The women, who stormed the South-South Zonal Office of the EFCC in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Thursday, October 27, said the health of the wife of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has deteriorated greatly because she has no money to treat herself.

Led by High Chief Rita N. Onwunali Adandigbo, the group called Voice of Niger Delta Women expressed supported for the anti-corruption agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari but said it’s worried by the “deteriorating health situation of Mrs Patience Jonathan owing to the non-release of her money by the EFCC”.

“Leave Ex-president wife alone” and “Magu, unfreeze Mrs Patience Jonathan Account”.

The women, who declared that the EFCC should release Patience’s money without delay, said they were worried for her health.

The EFCC received the protesting group through its head of public affairs of the commission, Oladele Oyewale, who assured the group that their grievances would be looked into.

“We will report your grievances to the Ag. Executive chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu and he will carefully look into it. We will report everything you have said to him and actions will be taken accordingly” he said.

An explosion occurred at the Tony Okocha-led secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, located along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, during the local government election.

The explosion damaged the gate and doors of the secretariat, along with other property. According to Tony Okocha, Chairman of the APC faction in Rivers State, “About 3:20am some gun-trotting young men with their explosives and all that, came here and dropped the first explosive,” but when it did not detonate, “they came back the second time to burn the structure – look at the security house is gone.”

Okocha alleged that the attack was politically motivated, accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara of responsibility. He stated, “It was deliberate to see how they can annihilate us, it is deliberate to see how they can embarrass us, it is deliberate to see how they can decimate us.”

Despite the incident, accreditation and voting have commenced in several polling centres around Port Harcourt City.
