A sense of confusion filled the air on Friday when a woman, whose identity has not been determined, passed away while riding in a tricycle in transit at Isheri, Idimu area of Lagos State.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had boarded the tricycle along the Isheri-Igando Road, heading towards the Isheri end of the area.

As the tricycle approached her destination, the rider notified her that they had arrived at her bus stop. However, when the rider attempted to rouse her, he was shocked to discover that she was not responding.

Further investigation revealed that the woman was motionless, prompting the rider to draw the attention of passersby. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene, and it was soon realized that the passenger was no longer breathing.

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the events surrounding the incident, providing a detailed account of the tragic occurrence.

He said, “I was close to the Isheri bus stop when I heard the tricycle rider shouting for help. When we moved close to the spot, we saw a woman placing her head on the middle of the barricade of the tricycle unresponsive.

“The rider said he was supposed to drop her at Isheri which is the last bus stop for tricycle riders along the area and when they got there, the rider expected her to step out and pay her fare only to find out that she wasn’t responding. That was when he raised the alarm. The place was crowded as it appeared strange.”

Another eyewitness who identified himself simply as Sodiq said efforts were made by some of the residents in the area to revive her but all proved abortive.

He added that the police later arrived at the scene, making people quickly desert the spot.

He said, “People tried their best to see if they could revive her but could not. It was not too long that the police arrived and the people around had to leave the spot to avoid being implicated.”

“Some said she might have been suffering from an ailment or she could have died of a heart attack,” Sodiq added.

It was gathered that the tricycle was taken to the Idimu police station while the deceased was taken to an undisclosed hospital in the area.

The Police Public Relations Officer,  Benjamin Hundeyin,  could not be reached as calls made to his phone were not responded to. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
