Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has suspended one of its members and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party for the last governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Omisore’s suspension was announced via a communique after the group’s meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday.
The communique of the meeting, read by a chieftain of the group, Chief Korede Duyile, said: “The meeting took a decision to suspend Senator Iyiola Omisore for one year for violating Afenifere’s directive which affected the outcome of Osun election.”
Afenifere had before the election in Osun State opted not to back the All Progressives Congress.
However, after the election went into rerun, Omisore declared his support for the APC against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
This led to the emergence of APC’s Gboyega Oyetola as governor-elect.
Adeleke has headed to the Tribunal to contest the outcome of the election.
