Fear has gripped some members of the new executive council and other appointees in Anambra over the invitation of the acting Chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to a retreat organised for them by the state government.
It was gathered that Governor Willie Obiano personally invited the anti-graft body’s chief to the retreat to lecture the new appointees on what constitutes corruption.
Obiano had last week appointed 18 commissioners and some special advisers.
However, the Commissioner for Information, Don Adinuba, who is also one of the new appointees, said the invitation of the EFCC boss as a guest speaker in the retreat was proper.
He said the EFCC boss was at the two-day retreat as a guest speaker, alongside a former governor of Central Bank, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, financial expert, Bismarck Rewane and motivational speaker, Fela Durotoye.
Magu presented a paper entitled, “A new dawn: Expectations from the Public Sector to drive home the need for accountability and transparency in the conduct of government business.”
According to Adinuba, Magu’s coming to the retreat was the first of its kind in the country
He said, “It shows how seriously Governor Obiano takes integrity, accountability and transparency.”
He appealed to his colleagues in the executive council to be guided.
The retreat was themed, “Setting the tone for the next four years.”
In attendant were heads of parastatals, departments and agencies, special advisers and commissioners.
