The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), YD Ahmed, has praised corps members for their significant contributions to Nigeria’s development.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Eddy Megwa, Director of Information and Public Relations, Ahmed commended the corps members in his message marking International Youth Day 2024.
Ahmed urged corps members to acquire skills that would enable them to become self-employed, highlighting that over 500,000 former corps members have already become job creators in various fields, aligning with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Additionally, Ahmed noted that the NYSC has sensitized over 3.5 million corps members on skill acquisition, youth empowerment, and wealth creation, resulting in numerous positive outcomes.
He also mentioned that the scheme has established partnerships with various institutions to provide grants, supporting corps members in starting their own businesses.
“We are taking a giant stride in NYSC, and with skill acquisition, we have turned many corps members into millionaires,” Ahmed said.
The director-general also advised corps members to be security conscious and avoid actions that could put them in danger.
He further mentioned that Nigeria was among 37 countries invited to share ideas with the Indian government at the 2024 International Youth Exchange Programme.
Ahmed also noted that Tanzania recently expressed interest in replicating the NYSC model, with Nigeria promising to support the country in this regard.
