NAFDAC Seals Prophet Jeremiah’s “Miracle Water” Factory In Delta

Published

on

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) sealed Globod Table Water factory in Delta State on Sunday.

The factory, located at Km 4 DSC Expressway, Otokutu, was allegedly producing and distributing unregistered and unwholesome “miracle water” using a fake NAFDAC registration number.

NAFDAC claimed the factory was collaborating with Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries, led by Prophet Jeremiah Omoto.

According to NAFDAC’s Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, none of the advertised and sold products were registered with the agency.

Adeyeye said, “NAFDAC wishes to alert the public to the activities of a faith-based organisation, Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, that uses NAFDAC’s name to deceive the unsuspecting public.

“Recently, NAFDAC has been inundated with petitions from concerned citizens about Senior Prophet Jeremiah Omoto of Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, KM 5 Effurun, Sapele Road, Delta State on a Miracle Water and Miracle Soap being advertised with healing and miracle claims and sold to unsuspecting members of the public by the spiritual ministry.

“The minister showcased the use of miracle water and miracle soap on social media to heal barrenness. He claimed that the women would carry twins if they used the soap. He openly told his congregation that the soap is NAFDAC registered. Thus, the public began to visit the office to confirm the claims.

“The petitioners also submitted the following products from the Spiritual Ministry to NAFDAC to verify the bogus claims. The products are Miracle & Healing Water, River Jordan Water, the Miracle Water from the Pool of Bethsaida, A New Beginning Mount Camel Miracle Water, Water of Life, Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida (1L), A New Beginning Pool of Bethsaida Water, and Father Smelled Perfume.”

The agency stated that upon receipt of the petitions, it contacted its Delta State Coordinator, through the Director Post Marketing Surveillance of the agency to ascertain the existence or records of any transaction with the Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries and the products in Delta State Office.

“The coordinator was also directed to visit the ministry to establish the veracity of the claims in the petitions and take necessary regulatory action on the production facility in the ministry where the miracle water and other products are produced. The state coordinator covertly bought the miracle water (25cl) for N3,000 from the ministries and took the pictures.

“On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the Coordinator, Delta State visited the Mercy Land Ministry and met the Head of Service – Mr. Ogunleye Fufeyin and the Chief Security Officer. The officials denied producing miracle and healing water or soap even with the evidence of the receipt of purchase. He claimed that only the logo and address on the label were theirs but not the product. The HoS added that they only have the Pool of Bethsaida Water, which is spiritual and artificial. The HoS requested time to meet with other staff and returned. He returned after 30 minutes and refused to cooperate, asking them to see the CSO.

“On August 27, 2024, a team of Investigation and Enforcement, NAFDAC and Federal Task Force on Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods visited the ministry, to commence investigation on the place of purchase or the manufacturing site for possible sample collection, for laboratory analysis, but the officials did not cooperate with the team. Letters of invitation were issued to the officials to report on August 28th, but it was not honoured. The company instead submitted a legal document at NAFDAC Headquarters, Abuja on August 28th, 2024 and asked to come back on September 3rd, 2024 to organise their document before coming. The agency then gave the Prophet till 29th to report to the Investigation and Enforcement, NAFDAC Office, Asaba for further necessary investigation.

“The Investigation and Enforcement team waited for the Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries officials based on their earlier request to report for commencement of the investigation, but they still refused to show up. On September 3rd, 2024, they forwarded some documents instead, asking for more time to report,” it explained.

It added that in a document made available to the NAFDAC Office in the evening of September 3rd, the faith organisation claimed to have entered into a production contract agreement with Globod Table Water Km 4, DSC Expressway, Otokutu, Delta State without the knowledge of NAFDAC State Office in Delta State.

It said the act was illegal according to the extant rules and regulations on commercial production.

“In continuation of our investigation, NAFDAC Investigation and Enforcement has sealed Globod Table Water factory for aiding and abetting the production, sale and advertisement of unregistered and unwholesome Miracle Water under the pretext of Fake NAFDAC Registration Number.

“At this point, it is very clear that Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, KM 5, is not ready to present itself for investigation of production and advertisement of suspected falsified, unwholesome, and unregistered Miracle products.

“NAFDAC wishes to inform the public that none of these products being advertised and sold are registered with NAFDAC. The public is also being advised to stop patronising any of these miracle products. NAFDAC is a scientific organisation that is guided by verifiable scientific facts before registering any product.

“In the meantime, we will continue with our investigation into the activities of this faith organisation with regard to products within our mandates that have been reported to be manufactured and sold by them. I want to use this opportunity to warn either faith organisations against illegal production of the regulated product without requisite regulatory requirements,” it added.

The NAFDAC DG assured Nigerians of the agency’s resolve to continue safeguarding their health.

Michael Abimboye Speaks On Food Items, Palliative To Ode-Omu Residents

  • “Why we target aged, widows, and other vulnerables. Here is what this got to do with Governor Ademola Adeleke.”

Michael Abimboye, a Nigerian political communication consultant and journalist, has supported Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke’s palliative measures through the distribution of food items to residents of Ode-Omu communities in Ayedaade Local Government Area of the State.

Abimboye, who distributed the food items on Friday, September 6, said the Osun government has in the last few months, shown a high sense of responsibility through its commitment to alleviating the suffering of the masses.

In June, Adeleke-led government distributed rice palliative under the State Government Food Security Program in a bid to alleviate food scarcity and ensure food security. The distribution targeted a wide array of registered groups to ensure that the palliative reaches diverse segments of the population.

Among the beneficiaries are Labour Unions, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Civil Society Organizations, the Union of Pensioners, various Security Outfits, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Religious Associations, Market Unions, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), among other registered associations.

Before then, Adeleke rolled out free medical outreach in the state as palliative to cushion the effect of high cost of living. The Imole free medical outreach took place in Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Ede, Iwo, Ila, and Osogbo.

On his part, Abimboye, who is following the political footprint of Adeleke in Odeomu through the distribution of food items, emphasised the importance of the palliatives in mitigating the effects of food insecurity exacerbated by various socio-economic challenges.

“The governor has laid down a very good foundation, and the best we can do is to support his initiative. I am distributing palliatives in Ode-omu and its environs as part of my commitments to supporting the most vulnerable in our society,” he stated. “The economic situation in the country is terrible, and the little we can do for our people is to ensure that essential food items are accessible to provide relief and promote stability.”

“We’ve looked out for the aged, widows, and other vulnerables. Our goal is to ensure that they don’t beg to put food on their tables. Adeleke’s government has shown that it’s ready to address food insecurity, and the best I can do to support the state governor is to echo his proactive measures.

“I have come to distribute the food items myself because I want the beneficiaries to be those who really need them and would make judicious use of the palliatives,” Abimboye said.

He also urged other indigenes of Osun at home and in diaspora to continue to support the governor’s strides towards leading Osun to a promised land and eradicate poverty in the state.

The Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has been taken over by officers from the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement released on Monday, SERAP denounced the action as an “unlawful occupation.”

The statement revealed that the DSS officers are demanding a meeting with SERAP’s directors.

“President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians,” SERAP urged.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the organisation urged Tinubu to leverage his leadership and authority to instruct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to promptly reverse the seemingly illegal and unconstitutional hike in the pump price of premium motor spirit, commonly known as petrol, at its retail outlets.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has convened a closed-door meeting following the detention of its President, Joe Ajaero, by the Nigerian government.

NLC’s Head of Public Relations, Benson Upah, confirmed the meeting on Monday.

Upah stated that Ajaero was seized by agents of the Nigerian State without a legal warrant or formal instrument.

The NLC has condemned the detention as a “brazen act of lawlessness and intimidation” and demanded Ajaero’s immediate and unconditional release.

“The Congress has also called on the international community, human rights organizations, and democracy advocates to take note of the rising wave of authoritarianism in Nigeria.”

Ajaero was set to address the Trade Union Congress in the UK on behalf of Nigerian workers, discussing critical issues like workers’ rights, social justice, and economic fairness.

Upah said, “The NLC has put its affiliates, state councils, and civil society allies on high alert and vowed to protect workers’ rights and not be cowed by oppressive tactics.
