Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has made preparations to introduce Threads, a new app that will compete with Twitter.
The platform will go live on July 6, 2023, a Thursday.
The decision was made a few months after Twitter Chairman Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg decided to square off in a cage fight.
Meta said ‘Threads’ has been made available for pre-order on the Apple Store, and is expected to be linked to Instagram.
The company describes the new product as a “text-based conversation app”.
“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what will be trending tomorrow,” the description of the app says On Apple Store.
The new Meta app is said to be a replica of the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, and its unveiling is coming amidst several features introduced by Musk.
On Saturday, the Tesla owner, restricted the number of posts users can read daily on Twitter.
The move sought to tackle issues around “data and systems manipulation”, Musk, the chief technology officer (CTO) and chairman of the firm, had said in a tweet.
He said verified users will have access to 6,000 posts daily, while unverified and new users will be allowed to read 600 and 300 posts, respectively.
Since Musk took over the ownership of Twitter, he has introduced several changes that have come as unpalatable to some users.
Responding to a tweet about the new app, Threads, Musk said: “Thank goodness they’re so sanely run.”
