Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment conducted an enforcement operation on Wednesday, removing illegal occupants who had turned the Oja Oba Bridge in Adeniji Adele into makeshift residences.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Wahab Tokunbo, shared videos of the operation on his X page on Thursday, emphasizing that the exercise aimed to restore order to the area.

The Lagos State Government has been intensifying its crackdown on individuals who erect unauthorized structures beneath bridges across the state.

According to Tokunbo, bridges are designed to facilitate movement and maintain urban order in a city like Lagos.

“We have commenced a major clean-up and enforcement operation at Under Bridge, Oja Oba, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island,” he stated.

“These public spaces, meant for free movement and urban order, have been reclaimed to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for all.”

He further assured that the ministry remains committed to upholding environmental standards and urged residents to contribute to maintaining a clean and organized city.

“Our commitment to restoring sanity and upholding environmental standards across Lagos remains unwavering. Let us all play our part in keeping our city clean and organized,” he added.
