Kamala Harris Breaks Record With Over $81m Donations, Day After Biden Quit Race

United States Vice President Kamala Harris has achieved a remarkable fundraising milestone, raising over $81 million in just 24 hours. This impressive feat comes on the heels of President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race. The amount raised by Harris is believed to be the largest 24-hour fundraising haul in the history of US presidential campaigns.

In comparison, former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party candidate, raised over $50 million in 24 hours following his felony conviction in the New York hush money trial. Meanwhile, President Biden had gathered $38 million in four days after his debate performance against Trump, which was deemed unimpressive by some.

Harris’ campaign has reported that the new total includes donations from hundreds of thousands of first-time donors, injecting hope into a Democratic Party that had been facing uncertainty after weeks of trying to persuade Biden to step aside. The 81-year-old President had initially insisted on remaining in the race despite growing concerns about his ability to run.

However, in a surprise move on Sunday, Biden announced his withdrawal from the race, citing the interests of the party and the country. He threw his support behind Harris, urging citizens to put their confidence in her. Harris has promised to win and earn the nominations from her fellow Democrats. Although she has not been officially announced as the party’s candidate, polls indicate that she is the most favored to secure the Democratic ticket.
