The Federal Government has dismissed viral report (not by PorscheClassy News) claiming the Ministry of Petroleum ordered NNPCL to sell fuel at N1000, above the approved pump price.
A statement signed by Minister Heineken Lokpobiri’s aide, Nnemaka Okafor, described the reports as “concocted and ill-conceived” to sow discord and confusion.
Nnemaka stated:
“‘There was never a time FG interfered with petroleum pricing with NNPCL, let alone give directives for price increment.”
The government categorically condemned the claims as “baseless, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to incite public discontent.”
Key Points:
– No directive given for price increment.
– NNPCL operates independently under CAMA.
– Ministry of Petroleum Resources does not interfere in NNPCL’s internal decisions, including pricing.
The Federal Government challenged anyone with evidence supporting these claims to make it public, emphasizing:
“We challenge anyone in possession of any evidence… to make it public.”
This clarification aims to alleviate public concerns and maintain transparency in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
