Donald John Trump took the Oath of Office as the 47th President of the United States in a ceremony attended by his immediate predecessor Joe Biden, ex-presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Kamala Harris, the immediate past Vice President and Democratic nominee during the last election, also attended the event.
The ceremony took place indoors at the Capitol Rotunda due to dangerously cold temperatures, making it the coldest Inauguration Day since 1985.
It was also the 60th presidential inauguration in the 250-year-old US democracy.
Newly sworn-in US Vice President JD Vance was ushered into the Rotunda at exactly 5:40 PM Nigerian time, while Trump entered at 5:43 PM for the one-hour ceremony.
Trump was sworn in at exactly 6:02 PM Nigerian time with two Bibles by Chief Justice Roberts. One was a personal Bible given to him by his mother in 1955, and the other was the historic Lincoln Bible.
Michelle Obama won’t attend Trump’s inauguration because she refuses to “be fake” about her loyalties.
