The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa Ari, who was suspended for declaring Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of a controversial supplementary election on April 15, 2023, has been taken into police custody.
Recall that President Muhammad Buhari had ordered an investigation into the actions of the electoral commissioner and security personnel present at the time of the declaration, after which INEC nullified Ari’s decision and suspended him.
Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was later announced the winner of the poll. Ari had been missing since the controversy began, but a police source confirmed that he is now in police custody.
