Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), today, officially retired from service, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Ariwoola’s illustrious judicial career spanned over four decades, beginning in 1982 as a Senior Magistrate Grade II in the Oyo state judiciary.

He was later appointed to the Supreme Court bench on November 22, 2011, and eventually sworn in as CJN on June 27, 2022, following the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad.

In anticipation of Ariwoola’s retirement, the National Judicial Council (NJC) had already recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubv for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria, as announced on August 15.
