16 people were killed on Thursday when gunmen in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State broke into several communities. The attackers are thought to be bandits.
This occurs just 24 hours after competing militia groups terrorised the Gbagir community in the state’s Ukum LG, killing at least 40 people.
A source claims that the bandits launched a killing spree on Thursday, when they ransacked approximately 11 communities in their most recent attack.
According to sources, the state’s security chiefs and deputy governor, Sam Ode, have conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the area.
When contacted, Catherine Anene, the state Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, stated that she would obtain information about the incident as soon as Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina, who had visited the problematic area, returned.
