Joseph Yobo is set to come out of retirement to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League on a short-term contract, the League Management Company announced on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old hung up his boots last month after a stellar career, but will now play as a League Ambassador for the remaining 12 games of the campaign. The ex-Super Eagles captain will be assigned a club soon, with Akwa United, IfeanyiUbah FC, Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists all said to have registered interest in the former Everton defender.
Yobo will join the NPFL under the Elite Players Scheme that seeks to assign players of international repute to Nigerian club sides in a bid to further improve the quality of the league. Sani Kaita was a beneficiary of the scheme when he joined Enyimba for a three-month stint in 2014.
Yobo will soon be assigned to a club under the #NPFL Elite Players Scheme which Sani Kaita benefited from two seasons ago.
