The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says a woman has been crushed to death after a 40-foot fully loaded container fell on a car in the Ogudu area of the state on Friday.
The woman, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, died instantaneously after the shipping container on a Mack truck fell on the Nissan automobile, according to a statement released by LASTMA Spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq.
According to Taofiq, following the incident, the articulated truck driver and his motor boy fled. He also mentioned that the Nissan car’s driver got away with it unscathed.
“A fully loaded 40fts Mack articulated truck today fell on a Nissan Car (ABJ 692 BG) and instantly killed a woman at the rear of the car while the car driver survived unhurt with support by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Officials, the statement reads.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of Mack articulated 40 ft fully loaded container, while on a high speed lost control as a result of a brake failure and rammed into a moving Nissan car on motion by N.N.P.C inward Alapere, Ogudu along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos.”
Alabi Olukayode, an officer of the agency, said the body of the deceased has been handed over to the police officers from the Alapere station.
