Inside Katsina: Priest, Assistant, Two Others Abducted, Church Seeks Prayers

No fewer than four people, including a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Stephen Ojapa, were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday in Katsina State.

The cleric, who was the parish priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, was kidnapped alongside his assistant, Oliver Opara, and two other boys from the church.

The Director, Social Communications, Diocese of Sokoto, Fr. Chris Omotosho, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.

He said, “As of midnight of today, May 25, 2022, gunmen broke into the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, in the Kafur LGA of Katsina State.

“The parish priest and his assistant, Rev. Fr. Stephen Ojapa, Oliver Okpara, and two boys in the house were kidnapped.

“No information as to their whereabouts. Kindly pray for their safety and release. Thank you.”
