The Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Kassim Gaidam, said the commission has registered a total of 111, 762 voters across the 21 Local Government Areas in the state under the ongoing continuous voter registration ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The REC made this known while briefing the press at the commission headquarters in Yola, on Wednesday.

Gaidam explained that out of the 111, 762 voters registered online, 83, 395 have completed all the processes as of March 7, adding that about 454 people living with disabilities were also registered by the electoral body.

He said other milestones recorded by the commission include, 2, 983 reviews, 9, 512 information updates, 14, 434 transfers, 3, 427 permanent voter card collections, 5, 147 card losses, and 2, 032 defaced card replacements.

Gaidam further stated that the commission has also approved the decentralization of the Continuous Voter Registration to registration areas/wards level on a rotational basis to cover eligible voters located far away from the CVR centers.

He added that the approved schedule for the rotation by LGAs will be given wider publicity for prospective registrants in the affected locations to avail themselves of the long-awaited opportunity for registration with ease.

He said the CVR will be suspended around June preparatory to processing the data in readiness for the elections, adding that the commission has approved the redeployment of Heads of Departments and Electoral Officers who have stayed long in their states of posting.
