Twenty-eight-year-old Orire Popoola who was caught while trying to stowaway, has said he does not regret his action and would do any thing to leave the country.
Popoola was among nine Nigerians paraded by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos Seaports and Marine Command on board several vessels they erroneously thought were Europe-bound.
They were said to have been caught on Sunday and Monday this week by naval officers who then handed them to the NIS. Speaking while being paraded by the Lagos Seaports and Marine Command of the NIS, the Ondo state indigene said he got into the vessel on his own.
According to him, getting to Europe is his only way of surving the harsh conditions in the country.
He added that he was willing to do whatever it takes to leave Nigeria and seek greener pastures since his efforts to get a job has largely been futile.
“I will take any risk to find my way out of Nigeria. I have no job,” Popoola told Punch.
“I believe that if I can follow a ship to Europe, I can be anything I want to be.
“I thought the ship was going to Holland or any other part of Europe.”
