The Presidency has said the $1 billion approved by President Muhammadu Buhari is not only meant to fight Boko Haram but insecurity generally in the country.
Buhari had on Wednesday approved the fund to tackle insecurity with several persons alleging that it was a ploy by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to siphon fund for the 2019 elections.
However, Femi Adesina, media aide to Buhari, on Thursday told a national TV that the fund was to battle insecurity, not necessarily Boko Haram.
According to him, it is to equip the military to get equipment to fight insecurity. He said even if the approval was close to the 2019, there was no perfect time to do such things.
Adesina added that the presidency had already communicated with the National Assembly.
He noted that the Presidency followed due process since the fund needed approval before getting to the lawmakers.
