Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed that he is making progress on the moves he is making to lure former first choice keeper, Vincent Enyeama back to the team.
Rohr who is hell-bent on getting the Lille of France shot stopper change his mind and return to international football was quoted by Owngoal.com as saying that he is getting positive signals from the keeper.
“It’s been positive so far, we are yet to get to a point where he will say yes or no. I need him (Enyeama) in the team. We need his experience alongside Ikeme, then we can have a young talented goalkeeper as understudy” Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.
Rohr is keen on having the Lille shot stopper back in the team due to his experience and abilities and has reportedly met with the veteran goaltender on various occasions, even though Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is yet to put a foot wrong since making his debut for Nigeria.
The coach avoided a potential goalkeeper crisis before Nigeria’s clash against Algeria in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers when Ikeme pulled out injured few days to the clash.
Daniel Akpeyi was then called up as a last minute replacement and was quickly trusted to stay in between the sticks for Nigeria in their 3-1 win over Algeria despite having two backup goalies at his disposal, a sign of the lack of trust he has with the goalkeepers at his disposal.
“I will meet again with Enyeama in the coming days to talk further, I can’t put a time frame to when talks will take place but it’s very soon. Hopefully it will be positive,” Rohr further revealed.
