Govt Officials Always Present Whenever I Meet Bandits —– Sheikh Gumi

Published

on

Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has disclosed that his interactions with bandits were done in the presence of government officials.

Gumi disclosed this while rebuking those calling for his arrest and prosecution over his interaction with bandits.

The Islamic cleric described those calling for his arrest as “clowns.”

Recall that the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, had called for the arrest and prosecution of Sheikh Gumi.

HURIWA had pointed out that Gumi’s interaction with bandits was a treasonable offense that should be decisively dealt with.

However, the Kaduna-based cleric stressed that he was not the first to have negotiated with bandits.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Gumi noted that Kaduna and Zamfara States’ governors had met with bandits before him.

Asked to respond to those calling for his arrest, Gumi said: “Those are clowns, even the Kaduna State governor dialogued with them, Zamfara governor dialogued with them.

“I’m not the first person that started dialoguing with them (bandits). I only added value, and I find them to be religious; religion is the only thing that teaches you that blood has sanctity. So this is the religious angle.

I’m trying to gather them and teach them that there is a sanctity to life. They cannot kill, rape, and so on. This is the addition I hope will work. Note, I never visited these bandits without a government official, but they are in the background.

“All the bandits we met were with government officials, and that is why I said those calling for my arrest are clowns.”

The Islamic cleric also insisted that his interaction with bandits has yielded instant positive results.

“My interaction with bandits has yielded instant results. When you are dealing with somebody engrossed in criminality, if you approach him as a policeman, you will have a problem but if you come to him as a pastor, he will confess all his sins to you.

“So we approach them as clergy, and they feel comfortable to vomit all their problems. Hence, we see how we can appease and help them.

“We are not approaching them as an authority but from the spiritual angle. You know every human being has that spiritual influence, and that is why we are adopting that,” he added.

KWAM 1 Petitions Ogun Government, Seeks Nullification of Awujale Nomination Exercise

Published

on

Wasiu Ayinde, the veteran Fuji musician, also known as KWAM 1, has petitioned the Ogun State Executive Council to nullify the January 12, 2026, nomination exercise for the Awujale of Ijebuland stool.

The musician alleged that he and other eligible members of the Fusengbuwa ruling house were unlawfully excluded from participating in the exercise.

The petition, submitted through his solicitors and supplementing prior complaints, claimed that at the meeting held at Bisrod Hall in Ijebu-Ode, heavily armed security personnel, including police, restricted entry to only those with special “delegate” cards issued by a faction of the ruling house.

According to the petition, the action imposed an unauthorised delegate system contrary to the direct, inclusive participation required by the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021 (Section 16(1)(f)) and the Awujale chieftaincy declaration.

“Our client is an acknowledged and eligible member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and an aspirant to the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebu Land,” the petition reads.

“This petition addresses the grave procedural irregularities and the unlawful exclusion of our client and other legitimate members from the nomination meeting of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House held on January 12, 2026, which actions fundamentally undermine the integrity of the selection process for the revered Awujale stool.”

The controversy follows the July 2025 passing of Sikiru Adetona after a 65-year reign, with the Fusengbuwa ruling house next in rotation to nominate candidates.

A January 6, 2026, letter from the Ijebu-Ode LGA had directed a full statutory meeting within 14 days, without reference to delegates, screening, or nomination forms.

The petitioners argued that this unilateral approach disenfranchised legitimate members and violated constitutional rights to a fair hearing under section 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution, principles of natural justice, and the Supreme Court.

The petition includes a list of excluded individuals, including Adetayo Abayomi Oduneye, Adeyemo Ridwan Afolohunso Oduneye, M. O. Alatishe, Adetoun Oduneye, Adebambo Oduneye, Ashiru Saheed Orisanmi, Adesanya Johnson Adekunle, Adesanya Adetayo, Tunde Banjo, Orekoya Adekitan, Bolanle Ashiru, Olalekan Olubanjo, Temitope Ashiru, Saidat Ashiru, and Adebola Adesanya.

The petition declared the exercise procedurally defective, null and void, and warned of potential protracted litigation and unrest if uncorrected.

BUA Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu To Fulfil $500,000 Pledge To Super Eagles Despite AFCON Loss

Published

on

Billionaire industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, on Thursday announced that he will fulfil his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles despite the team’s failure to clinch the Africa Cup of Nations title.

Rabiu disclosed this in a message shared on his official Instagram page, where he applauded the Nigerian team for their resilience, courage and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.

He praised the players for giving their all on the pitch, noting that although the desired outcome was not achieved, they had made Nigerians proud with their performance.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” Rabiu wrote.

Reflecting further, the business mogul noted that outcomes do not always reflect effort, stressing that the spirit, passion and unity displayed by the team were what truly mattered.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration,” he added.

As a token of appreciation, Rabiu confirmed that he would still honour the $500,000 reward earlier promised to the team, describing it as recognition of their hard work, dedication and the joy they brought to Nigerians during the tournament.

It was earlier reported that Rabiu had pledged the cash reward to the Super Eagles ahead of the tournament as part of efforts to motivate the team in their quest for continental glory.

The Super Eagles impressed many Nigerians with their run to the latter stages of the competition. Still, they ultimately fell short of lifting the trophy after losing to Morocco in the semi-finals.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Wednesday lost 4–2 in a penalty shootout to host nation Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a tense 0–0 draw at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Rabiu encouraged the players to keep their heads high, expressing confidence that the lessons and experience gained would fuel greater success in future competitions.
