GOtv Boxing Night 8: Organisers Promise Adequate Security

Flykite Promotions, organisers of GOtv Boxing Night, have promised adequate security in and around the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, venue of the GOtv Boxing Night 8.

The event holds on Saturday.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, Jenkins Alumona, the CEO of Flykite Promotions, explained that fans coming for the event have nothing to fear as adequate security arrangements have been made.

Alumina said: “We assure fans that they have nothing to fear.

“We have never had any untoward incident since we started in 2014 and we will not have.

“One of our partners is the leading security company in the country.

“They are the ones providing security for the event.”

Alumona added that this edition, being held in the memory of legendary boxer, Muhammed Ali, will be bigger than the previous editions.

He declared: “There will be a national title fight.

“Even the undercards will feature national and sub-regional champions.

“It will be a cracker of an edition.”

The event will feature six fights in various categories.

The main bout is the national middleweight title contest between Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed and reigning champion, Sunny “King Hammer” Iyere.

Two light welterweight bouts are scheduled, with one featuring Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi and Joseph “Blacky Joe” Adeniji, while the other pairs Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde with Shakiru “No Shaking” Lateef.

Waidi “Skoro” Usman, National and West African featherweight champion, will clash with David “Lucky Boy” Ekpeyong.

In the welterweight division, Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo, the national champion, will face Dele “Lagelu” Adeleke.

The super middleweight category will see Matthew “Wizeman” Obinna up against Samuel “Lion Heart” Igbokwe.

The best boxer at the event, to be broadcast live in 47 African countries by SuperSport, will win a cash prize of N1 million and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.
