The allies of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, and four aggrieved governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a meeting in Lagos.

It was gathered that the meeting is currently taking place at the Southern Sun hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

At the meeting, the G5 and other members of the integrity group, are expected to discuss the next line of action on the lingering crisis rocking the PDP.

Other governors in the G5 group led by Wike are Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu.

PDP stakeholders like Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo, Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River, Bode George, former deputy national chairman, are also at the meeting.

Over the past few months, Wike and his allies have been calling for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s chairman, citing that Ayu and Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, cannot come from the same region.

However, Ayu had insisted that he would not resign his position on the basis of the demands of Wike’s allies.

Owing to the crisis, Wike’s allies pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council while vowing not to support Atiku.

In October, the Rivers governor had accused the PDP national chairman of being “very corrupt” and not being accountable for the money that enters the party’s coffers.

He alleged that Ayu received N1 billion from a presidential hopeful and another N100 million from a governor to do a project already paid for by the party.

But the PDP national chairman denied both claims.

On Saturday, Wike dared Ayu to head to court if he’s innocent of the corruption accusation levelled against him.
