Five persons have been confirmed dead in the early morning crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Thursday.
According to available information, the crashes, on the Lagos outbound side of the Kara Bridge, involved 16 vehicles.
Nineteen persons were also injured apart from the one male and four females that died.
Corps Commander Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, said the crashes occurred at about 6am.
Fifty-three persons made up of 40 men and 13 women were involved in the accident, with 11 men and eight women injured.
The vehicles involved were BDG27AA Nissan bus white; GGE818XC Daf truck white; XS216KSF Nissan Cabstar blue; APP769XR Daf truck white; MUS411DG Honda car black; APP303DV Honda Car green; AKD520XN Mazda bus white; and KTU340XU Ford bus white.
Others were FKJ475BR Lexus jeep; AGL545XF MAN Truck white; BDG561XG MACK Truck white; KRD122XC Sino Truck white; AGL197XD Sino Truck white; KRD123XC Sino truck white; KTU594XM Volkswagen bus yellow; and DAF Truck(BHN) no number.
Oladele said the injured have been taken to emergency centers and the obstruction removed.
