Lawmakers in Ekiti state have dismissed the apology tendered by former Governor of the state Kayode Fayemi. Fayemi, who is Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel, had apologised to Ekiti people shortly after emerging as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 14 governorship election.
The former governor, who served the state from 2010 to 2014, apologised to the people over his shortcomings during his first tenure. But Leader of the House, Akinyele Olatunji, said the minister’s apology came too late, urging people of the state to ignore him, as he believes Fayemi apologised in order to get votes.
He said: “Fayemi can’t continue to deceive the good people of Ekiti State. He had been advised long before now to tender his apology to the people, but he rebuffed the timely advice.“Now that he needs the peoples’ votes, he is apologising in a rather arrogant manner. According to him, he had more than enough time to apologise, when the lawmakers invited him to clear himself on alleged misappropriation of the state’s funds.”
