The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Adebayo Busayo and two other executives of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement, a group advocating for good governance and accountability in Nigeria.

According to a source, the arrests were made in the early hours of Monday, July 31, 2024, at the group’s secretariat in Lagos, Nigeria.

The source, under anonymity due to the volatility of the situation, said ‘Adebayo Busayo and two other executives of the movement were invited for dialogue with government, coincidentally some of them were arrested but he (Adebayo) escaped, and before getting home at the evening, his home was already invaded so he had to escape with his family to avoid being arrested and detained unjustly.’

The DSS has also placed Michael Lenin, the leader of the movement, on a red alert, sources revealed.

The reasons for the arrests and the red alert are yet to be disclosed, but it is believed to be connected to the group’s recent protests and advocacy for government accountability amid increasing cost of living and hardship in the country.

The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement has been vocal in its criticism of the government’s handling of the economy and has organised several protests in recent weeks.

This development has sparked concerns among human rights groups and activists, who fear a crackdown on freedom of speech and assembly.

Efforts to reach the DSS for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
