The Chairman of the ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, has said the body is empowered to investigate the National Assembly.
Nta’s position is at variance with that of the Speaker and the House of Representatives which stated that no anti-graft agency had power to investigate legislative proceedings.
While speaking during a programme on Channels Television titled, ‘Sunrise Daily’, Nta confirmed that the ICPC had received a petition from Jibrin.
He said, “We can investigate infractions, and it is not a new function. It has always been there and we have always investigated when infractions happened, but what I will not tell you are the processes of investigation.”
The ICPC boss also revealed that the anti-graft agency would soon publish a new report on how state governments spent the bailout funds they received from the Federal Government.
He said some governors “misapplied” the bailout they received from the Federal Government which was strictly meant for the payment of the salaries of civil servants.
He added that some of the governors used the funds to pay contractors which was not what the money was meant for.
